Let’s make music together!
Thursday after school on January and February - and then shifting to Tuesday’s afterschool beginning in March. (This is to accommodate students involved with Stewards of the Land)
When:
Thursday's from 3:05-4:05
In this class, we will:
-begin to learn to play the violin!
-learn how to take care of our instrument
-engage in the art and discipline of practice
-begin learning how to read music
-learn basic fingering and bowing technique
-play simple songs
-compose simple songs we will then play
-experience the joy of making music together
Learning a stringed instrument at a young age is a wonderful skill to carry into life.
Cost:
Getting a violin:
Each family will be responsible for getting a violin. I highly recommend renting a violin through StringWorks.com. StringWorks is willing to offer us a group discount and will have the instruments delivered right to Bolinas. The cost will be around $15-20 a month. There are a few violins floating around the community that might be available for use.
I can help determine the correct size instrument for your child.
Shoulder rests will also be necessary. StringWorks can outfit the violins with shoulder rests. Once I get a sense of the numbers, I can provide a promo code to use at StringWorks. It will take around 5 days for the instruments to be delivered from String Works.
Please reach out to size your child for a violin as soon as possible and if you have any questions.
All other materials will be provided.
